Challenge for the month of January

Sunday, January 18, 2009

QT has always been hard for me. From reading the bible...to compromising to just reading daily bread...to reading daily bread + streams of the desert...to my current daily bread + reading the bible again (FINALLY). One thing i realised, is that there is no better devotion than to read God's word.

I was reading Psalms 4 when I came upon the phase "Offer right sacrifices and trust in the Lord". After that I went to read up on the concordance regarding this phase. Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the Lord with ALL your HEART". Isaiah 26:4 "Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal. John 14:1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me."

You see how God's word can be so impactful?

Went to church today, Pastor Joo shared about humility. He asked "How was your week? Did you live a life of humility?" And he continued..that we need to have a Life of Prayer. 2 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, who are called by my name, will HUMBLE themselves and PRAY, and SEEK my face and TURN from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive."

Qns to ponder: "Do you have a life of prayer? A life of humility?"

CHALLENGE: Make your prayer a lifestyle. Make it PERSONAL. Not routine! I'm very guilty of this. Ask anyone who's been around me, my prayer before I eat is always, and always the same! "...nourish our bodies..and bless the fellowship...Amen" If its the same all the time, don't u think God can even pray it out for you even before you said it? It has no meaning, no genuine significance. Thus, I would like to challenge everyone, even myself...to break out of this. But how? You know we can come out with all sorts of good reasons..."I've always prayed like this! Pastor nv taught me...or even my English is not very good...etc" But you know..praying is really very simple. What we need, is not a POWERFUL prayer, or a prayer with complicated queens English..rather, we just need more TIME. Spend more time praying. Prayer develops as we pray. It may be simple English, or simple Chinese, but if you spend time everyday, just to pray...soon you'll see the difference. Are you up for the challenge? With my basic Chinese, I still can pray. Perhaps ppl ard me will end up laughing than agreeing with me in prayer but hey, what's impt is that your prayer is genuine and you spend time to develop it.

Cheers ppl. =) A new week begins...a new prayer is said.

P.S: I finally plucked up enough courage and faith to approach Pastor Joo today to share my desire to serve although I just have about slightly less than 3mths in Salon. I'll be meeting him or sat for bible study. Hope it was turns out well! Keep me in prayer detons!
