Are you guilty? I am...

"I'll be closing in 5mins..." / "I'll make my sermon short and sweet... / "We shall end early today..."/ " In closing..."

We have heard these statements many times too often, and some if not most of us pay most of our attention to these statements. We can be slping or stoning throughout the entire sermon..but the moment any of these statements are said...miraculously we become all energized and ready to go! Sadly, this is how we approach sermons nowadays, and this must stop.

I was just meditating of his word when I thought of this situation happening in churches nowadays. Imagine going to church and everyone gets excited when the preacher says "I'll end by 6pm". Yes, we need time limits to accomodate our schedules...but is that the right attitude that we bring to church? Sermons are what God wants to say to us, what he wants to tell us by using his servant aka the preacher/Pastor. But if we only look forward to the end...den whats the point? It's like watching a movie...but only wanna know whats the end of it and not the content of it. Imagine God wanting to share his life with us, but here comes 630pm and everyone starts to get up and leave. How can we expect God to move if we give him a time limit? Don't u think God knows what you have after church? Don't u think he knows the appointments u have? He knows, but what he desires is not for us to simply come to church, and go after spending 2hrs. All hes asking is for your undivided attention and time.

Challenge: Fellow friends, let this be a challenge to ourselves. Lets go to church expecting and eager to know what God is trying to tell us by means of his sermons. Sermons is only boring if u go with a wrong mentality. I know its not easy sometimes. Sometimes the way the preacher shares the sermon can be really mundane and monotonous, but hey, lets go to church with an expecting attitude. Be prepared for worship and his word BEFORE going to church. Don't go to church to prepare. We go to church to receive. Go with faith. When faith goes to the market, it always brings along a basket. Will you bring your basket to church?

Cheers.
